In Ancient Egypt, Cassia was a major ingredient of the famous Kyphi, a sweet substance used as an incense and for its medicinal properties that often consisted of raisins, wine, honey, gum resins, and herbs. Prescriptions for Kyphi were written in Greece and Rome, and repeated by Medieval unguent makers.
